Objectives

The overall objective of the proposed IEF project focuses on the source noise reduction of airframe noise due to the landing gear cavities; specifically the cavity tones produced as a result of a fluid-dynamic or fluid-resonant oscillation by controlling cavity flow oscillations, with the aim to generate solutions that will bring improvement towards the ACARE objectives.

Work Packages

The research will be organised around four themes:

Design consideration of the cavity.
Passive control strategies.
Active control strategies.
Experimental validation in the anechoic chamber.
